Approximately 50 vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to police.
Vehicles, exterior walls and mailboxes were vandalized, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they reported in a statement.
Officers state they were contacted during the night on Wednesday, when a man discovered that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish fluid.
The substance had been placed in the pattern of a swastika, they stated.
Police then discovered many other vandalized vehicles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation outlawing the public display of Nazi symbols.
Police say initial examinations show the substance was most likely human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no lead as to its origin; investigators are not yet cognizant of any harm in association with the incident," they commented.
City officials stated they were trying "to solve the case" and have requested to the public for information.
An important political figure commented the incident made him without words and had to be resolved promptly.
"This act strikes at the core of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the far-right terrorist attack in 2020," he stated on online, referring to the death of nine individuals by a gunman targeting individuals of foreign heritage in 2020.
