Two Victims Revealed in Brown University Attack as Law Enforcement Press On With Hunt for Perpetrator.

The pair of scholars who died in Saturday’s mass shooting on the university campus were being remembered Monday – as a manhunt for their killer persisted following the freeing by local law enforcement of the single suspect of interest in the case.

Remembering Ella Cook

The young woman Ella Cook, a second-year student from Alabama, was described as “a wonderful, steady, devout, shining presence”, as stated by the Birmingham's Cathedral Church of the Advent, which offered condolences for her at a service on Sunday.

Cook was second-in-command of Brown’s division of College Republicans of America, according to the organization. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt also expressed sympathies on social media, saying in part: “Words cannot express. Remembering her family and friends, especially her parents.”

MukhammadAziz Umurzokov

The other deceased individual was an Uzbek national named MukhammadAziz Umurzokov, a citizen of Uzbekistan in his first year of studies at the Ivy League university, family members said.

Umurzokov’s identity was officially acknowledged by Uzbekistan’s foreign ministry.

“He was incredibly kind, funny, and smart. He had big dreams of entering the field of neurosurgery and assisting patients,” his sibling Samira said in a memorial statement.

The Shooting Incident

Nine other people were hurt in Saturday’s attack in the school of engineering of Brown’s campus in Providence, during the school’s final exam period.

Authorities said late Sunday that a 24-year-old male taken into custody in a search at a Hampton Inn about around 27 kilometers from the campus earlier in the day was released from custody.
