Toy Story 5 Trailer Pits The Beloved Duo Against a Tablet Computer
It has been 30 anniversary since the original Toy Story movie was released, launching Pixar as a major film company and introducing viewers to iconic figures like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now household names.
In 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed recently, offering a glimpse into the storyline but leaving fans wondering how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Gang
In the teaser reveals Bonnie — who received Andy's toys when he left for college — receiving a latest plaything, one that alarms the familiar toy group. Bonnie acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.
Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the characters appear to consider it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it probably is.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
An element the trailer avoids is what Woody is back with his friends in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), traveling with a fair and assisting prize toys find good homes.
Surely, Pixar will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him appear in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is a little strange, however. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have returned with him. And where is the stuntman toy (the star)?
Connections from the Last Installment
At the very least, some aspects are continuing from the prior film. The last thing the cowboy did before setting off for his new life was pass his sheriff badge to Jessie (Joan Cusack), leaving her as the leader of the toy domain. The clip shows the insignia attached to her shirt.
Hopefully she is still the driving force among the group.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
